SHEPHERD BOY DAVID

The Little Shepherd Who Became a Hero Once upon a time, in a land called Israel, there was a young shepherd boy named David.** David was the youngest of eight brothers, and while his brothers went off to fight in the army, David stayed home to care for the sheep. He was small, but he had a big heart, and he loved God with all his might. One day, a giant named Goliath appeared! Goliath was HUGE—so big that everyone in the Israelite army was terrified of him. He wore heavy armor, carried a massive sword, and shouted challenges at the Israelites every morning and evening. “Send out your best warrior to fight me! If he wins, we will be your servants. But if I win, you will serve us!” But no one was brave enough to face Goliath. David’s visit to the battlefield. One day, David’s father sent him to take food to his brothers at the battlefield. When David arrived, he heard Goliath’s challenge. The soldiers were scared, but David wasn’t. He knew God was stronger than any giant. “Who is this giant that he should defy the armies of the living God?” David asked. His brothers thought he was being foolish, but David insisted that he could defeat Goliath. David’s secret weapon: Trust in God. David went to King Saul and said, “I’ll fight Goliath!” King Saul was surprised but agreed. He gave David his armor, but it was too big and heavy. David decided to face Goliath with only his shepherd’s staff, five smooth stones, and a sling. The showdown. When Goliath saw David, he laughed. “Am I a dog that you come at me with sticks?” he roared. But David wasn’t afraid. He said, “You come against me with a sword and spear, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty. Today, everyone will know that the Lord saves, for the battle is the Lord’s.” David put a stone in his sling, swung it around, and let it fly. The stone struck Goliath right in the forehead, and the giant fell to the ground with a thud! Victory! David had done it! With God’s help, he defeated the mighty Goliath. The Israelites cheered, and the Philistines ran away in fear. David showed everyone that no matter how big our problems are, with God on our side, we can overcome anything! Moral of the story: Even when you feel small or scared, remember that God is always with you. Trust in Him, and you can face any giant that comes your way! This story teaches kids about courage, faith, and trusting God, no matter how big the challenges they face.
