A JOURNEY OF FAITH
The Story of Moses:
A Journey of Faith and Freedom
Once upon a time, in the land of Egypt, the Israelites were living as slaves under the rule of a cruel Pharaoh. Life was harsh, and the people cried out to God for deliverance. Hearing their cries, God chose a man named Moses to lead His people to freedom.
Moses was born during a time when the Pharaoh had ordered all newborn Hebrew boys to be killed. To save her son, Moses’ mother placed him in a basket and set him afloat on the Nile River. By God’s providence, the basket was found by the Pharaoh’s daughter, who took pity on the baby and raised him as her own in the palace.
Moses grew up as a prince in Egypt, but deep inside, he knew he was different. He saw the suffering of his people, the Hebrews, and it broke his heart. One day, when Moses saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew slave, he couldn’t stand it anymore. He stepped in and struck the Egyptian, killing him. Fearing for his life, Moses fled to the desert of Midian, where he started a new life as a shepherd.
Years passed, and one day, as Moses was tending his sheep on Mount Horeb, he saw a strange sight—a bush that was on fire but wasn’t burning up! Curious, Moses approached the bush, and from it, he heard the voice of God. “Moses, Moses,” God called. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
God told Moses that He had seen the misery of His people in Egypt and had heard their cries. He commanded Moses to go to Pharaoh and demand the release of the Israelites. At first, Moses was afraid and doubted himself. “Who am I to go to Pharaoh?” he asked. But God reassured him, saying, “I will be with you.”
With courage from God, Moses returned to Egypt and confronted Pharaoh. He demanded, “Let my people go!” But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he refused. To show His power, God sent ten terrible plagues upon Egypt—water turned to blood, frogs, gnats, flies, livestock died, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, and finally, the death of every firstborn in Egypt.
After the last plague, Pharaoh was broken. He finally agreed to let the Israelites go. Moses led the people out of Egypt, but Pharaoh changed his mind and chased after them with his army. Trapped between the Red Sea and the approaching Egyptians, the people were terrified. But Moses told them, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.”
God commanded Moses to stretch out his staff over the sea, and when he did, the waters parted, creating a dry path for the Israelites to cross. Once they were safely across, the sea closed back over the Egyptians, and the Israelites were free at last.
The journey through the wilderness was long and difficult, but God was with them every step of the way. He provided manna from heaven, water from a rock, and guidance by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. On Mount Sinai, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, laws that would guide His people in their new life of freedom.
Moses’ journey was one of faith, courage, and obedience to God. Through him, God showed that no matter how impossible things may seem, with faith and trust in Him, all things are possible. Moses led the Israelites to the edge of the Promised Land, and though he did not enter it himself, he knew that God’s promises would be fulfilled.
And so, the story of Moses reminds us that God hears our cries, leads us through our trials, and brings us to the freedom and peace that He has promised.
